Rule of Thumb
When using dorm toilet paper, fold once for adequate digit protection. For the hershey squirts, fold twice and use liberal amounts.

Cleanliness
Being that I am a single male, my living space is a mess. This I am accustomed to and actually enjoy. However, when I get something for my room, I expect it to at least start out clean. This was not the case with the microfridge my folks rented for me for the year while I was off at camp. The fridge and microwave were covered in grime and some of the stuff inside the fridge as actually green. As much as I love biology (I have to, it's my major) things growing in the fridge that I didn't put there is not something I expect in things I rent, nor is it very hygenic. I've talked to a number of other people who rented from the same company and have heard similar complaints. If you or anyone you know are considering renting a microfridge, don't get it from Mac-Gray. It'll be disgusting.

Stop Stalling, Damnit!
Back in Aurora, the city of Wayne's World fame, they're dragging their feet in getting the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall rebuilt/repaired. Seeing as I'm descended from a Union veteran, I'm none too happy about this. But, as I'm also not a resident of said city, my bitching at them wouldn't do a whole hell of a lot of good either.

Frustration
I have concluded that meeting women in the bars is nearly impossible, especially when oneself is not inebriated. Either everyone's sedately sitting at tables talking to other people they brought with them, or else it's so packed that all the women are in tight groups and getting one off to the side to talk to is made impossible by the intense conversation she's having with her friends. The fact that nearly every single woman in the Champaign bars is older than me doesn't help my chances either.

Drinking Other People's Lives Away
I have to agree with Atrios (who himself was responding to a post and comments on Matthew Yglesias' site) that lowering the drinking age to 19 would be a good idea. College students drink. There's no parental supervision in college, and there aren't enough university staff for them to effectively enfoce it, so they don't bother either. A 19 year old drinking age would let college students drink ('cos the 18 year old freshmen will buddy up with the local sophomores...) yet keep it still very illegal for high school students to drink (when they should be doing their homework anyway). College bars admit people either at age 18 or 19 anyway, so it shouldn't really matter there - if you know someone there, you'll get drinks. Atrios suggests limiting drinking under 21 to those who don't have driver's licenses as a way to curb teenage drunk driving. My opinion on the issue would be to limit drinking to those who don't own a car, as a driver's license isn't that much good without one.

James Cappozolla relays a report on the start of Ashcroft's month-long series of pep-rallies for Victory Act: Son of Patriot Act. Yes, children, the Bush administration's just itching to erode more of your rights, and you know it's bad, 'cos they're not releasing specifics yet.

Playing Well With Others
Dr. Josh has an excellent post explaining the need to internationalize our involvement in Iraq, concluding that "there is absolutely no strategic, moral, or diplomatic reason why internationalizing the occupation has to be seen as a failure." Even though I opposed the invasion to begin with, now that we're there sharing the burden seems the best possible option.

Fruits of My Ignorance
I'm really glad that I don't watch TV, mainly because if I did today the only thing on would be insipid coverage of the Northeast power failure. I can see watching about thirty minutes of such coverage, but really, how much can the talking heads say while showing pictures of New Yerkers walking home or standing and waiting for the ferry? I'd rather sleep, or read a good book, or sleep, or maybe sleep..... one gets the picture. (Thanks to David Appell for sparking this rant.)

Ladies, if you're telling a guy that you "Just want to be friends" and he gets upset to the point of tears, don't try to cheer him up by making out with him.
